In the Spider-Man franchise, there are so many films that I enjoy. From “Into The Spider-Verse” to Toby Maguire, they are all unique in their own way.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” ended on a heartbreaking cliffhanger that had me wanting the next movie as soon as possible. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” did not disappoint.
The main antagonist for the majority of this movie, Jean Grey, was one of my favorites. Not only did she have pretty cool powers, but we also got to see her depth as a human. Seeing this emotion in her really brought the audience to sympathize for her.
Another very emotional point was when MJ found Peter’s note. She claimed she did not remember Peter and no longer felt what she did in the past.
It was great to finally be able to return to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and see what they had been up to after the ending of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. Seeing him finally become broke and having to go back to basics was a fun way to show how this new Spider-Man movie would be different from the others, which usually have more high tech and nanotechnology in them. Seeing a practical comic-accurate suit be used in the movie was truly a fantastic experience and looks stunning on the big screen.
The plotline of Spider-Man’s DNA mutating and seeing him get the ability to shoot webs himself without needing web shooters was a fun part of the film that added some more difference to set this apart from the previous trilogy.
Both the Hulk and the Punisher were great additions to the movie. The Punisher unexpectedly brought some really good emotional and heart-to-heart moments in the film that really added some depth to Peter’s journey and how he’s balancing his life as Spider-Man.
The Hulk fight scene was great and it was awesome to finally see angry Hulk again after so many years of just seeing him as “Smart Hulk”. It was fun to even see a montage of some deep cut Spider-Man villains that hardcore fans will like, such as Boomerang, Tombstone, Tarantula and Ramrod (Fun fact: Ramrod has only appeared in 36 comic issues, which is a comically small number for a comic character to get a adaption in a movie). Even the minor villains like Scorpion managed to steal the show with what little screen time they had in the movie.
Overall, this was a great addition to the Spider-Man franchise, and I cannot wait for the next movie to come out.
