In September the Crimson Messenger was graciously donated over $1,050 dollars by a generous family who appreciated all of the work the paper has done and wanted to support independent journalism. The check was presented to the newspaper staff by the family and President Katie Arthur of the New Palestine Education Foundation.
These donations are always important to the paper because it is a non-school funded organization and does not accept any money from the school to maintain financial and publishing freedom.
The Crimson Messenger is thankful for the money donated, which will help continue to allow it to keep running and publishing the newspaper for the school.
Arthur believes that journalism is an important feature for NPHS students and the school.
“Journalism is the cornerstone of an informed, connected community. At its core, it teaches how to ask critical questions, seek objective truth, and tell stories with integrity. In an era where information moves rapidly, developing strong journalistic skills like research, critical thinking, media literacy and clear communication, equips students to navigate the world thoughtfully and advocate effectively for themselves and others,” Arthur said.
They also said that there are many benefits to having a local newspaper for the school.
“A local school newspaper gives students a powerful voice and a dedicated platform to highlight the achievements, challenges, and everyday experiences that make New Pal High School and New Pal Community unique,” Arthur said.
Arthur celebrates the student journalists who worked hard on the paper and the investment in student voice
