This fall, the NPHS performing arts department will showcase “Dreamland,” written by Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen. The show is a Shakespeare Midsummer-inspired musical that follows a group of high school show choir students and their adventures in a top-secret military base.
The musical will be open for viewing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, and Saturday, Sept. 27. Class Cup points will be given to students who attend.
In the weeks leading up to the musical auditions, mold was found in the auditorium. The administration got on the issue right away. Professional cleaners went in to clean up almost as soon as it was discovered.
There is no longer mold in the auditorium, leaving it ready for an exciting musical season. Thankfully, it caused little effect on musical production.
“It’s going to have, I would say, no impact, if any, it will be very little,” director Michael Dean said.
“Dreamland” has a cast of 37 actors and even more crew members working behind the scenes.
In “Dreamland”, senior Jude Gibbs will be playing the character, Snyder. Gibbs has performed in two other musicals at NPHS. He played the characters Fester in “The Addams Family” and Harry in “Mamma Mia.” Gibbs spent time learning music and preparing for his senior musical auditions.
“I spent a few weeks listening to the music and then I learned it. I learned the main lyrics. So it doesn’t take too long, just a few days,” Gibbs said.
Throughout the musical season, cast and crew members are hoping to form new friendships and strengthen old bonds.
“I enjoy learning new stuff because I don’t know, it’s just fun. But also, I enjoy hanging out with friends that have the same interest as me,” Gibbs said.
Musical participants hope to accomplish much more than performing a thrilling show.
“I guess branch out in the art and explore being a character in a musical. Just to branch out my personality,” Gibbs said.
“Dreamland” will present an exciting and fun musical experience for audiences. The cast and crew are starting to work hard to be able to put on an amazing show.
“I think it’s gonna be a really, really weird musical, so it’s gonna be interesting to see what it is, because no one has ever heard of it,” junior Adrienne Romberg said. “And heck, I get to sing and dance around in an alien costume.”
