The Louvre is a museum in Paris, France that is housed in a larger palace. It is the most visited art museum in the world, featuring works from ancient civilizations to the mid 19th century. The most famous work they have on display is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

It is believed that four people with power tools broke into the Louvre on Oct. 19, 2025 in broad daylight. They escaped on scooters, wielding eight extraordinarily expensive pieces of jewelry.

They arrived at the museum shortly after it opened to the public at 9:30am CET (Central European Standard Time).

The thieves broke in using the power tools to break the windows.

They threatened the guards, who then evacuated the museum and used the tools once more to break into the glass cases full of jewels.

According to the French media, the three rooms that were raided did not have security cameras.

Police officials arrested two men after saying they were “partially recognized” in involvement in the crime. They were charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.

Later, a 38-year-old woman was charged with complicity in organized theft and criminal conspiracy with a view to committing a crime. Individually, a 37-year-old man was arrested for theft and criminal conspiracy.

The jewels stolen were worth around €88m ($102m).

The two burglars that were arrested earlier admitted to committing the crime. The woman who was charged appeared before a judge in tears. They later determined that she was to stay in custody. The 37-year-old man was also instructed to stay in pretrial detention. The French justice system knew him for past robberies he had been involved in.

They stole a total of eight pieces of jewelry. One of them being a crown, which they dropped during their escape. The other seven pieces have not been uncovered yet.
