The NPHS girls soccer team is keeping a successful season so far. On Sept. 6, the varsity team defeated Shelbyville 7-0. Junior Hannah Sund had a great game, scoring four goals for a season total of 23.
The Dragons are now up 7-3 this season and 4-1 in HHC play. They are confident that they will make more wins throughout the remainder of the season.
The varsity team is gearing up to prepare for the regional semi finals after fall break even though this year’s varsity team has a completely different lineup from last year.
Compared to last year, when the team was playing very fast, Sund thinks that the team is playing with a lot more technique.
“This year we’re playing a lot more technically. So, we’re trying to possess the ball more and bring it down like that,” Sund said.
This season, Sund is hoping to be able to get the ball to her feet and distribute it well. She is also hoping everyone works their hardest to make this season great.
“I want to work on getting the ball to my feet and being able to distribute it and get it back to get a shot,” Sund says
Sund believes that, although there will be difficult teams that they will be playing, they will be able to defeat them as long as they work as a team. The 2026 seniors are ready to step up to fill the spots that the 2025 seniors opened up when they left.
“We’re going to have some tough teams we’re going up against and we’re going to come together as a team and I think we’re gonna learn how to work together and get the ball up there and get a lot of goals for the rest of the season,” Sund mentions.
