Senior year is the crunch time for college applications.

Throughout all years of high school, students are programmed to constantly think about colleges, trades and the military for their future career.

To help move this process along, the counseling department has scheduled multiple college and military representatives to talk with students during lunch.

Erika Vogel, the guidance secretary, helped schedule these meetings.

“The process of setting up visits with admissions representatives from colleges and universities started with the approval of Admissions Representative visits during the lunch periods by Mr. Voelz,” said Vogel. “The counselors forward me requests they get from admissions reps for visits or the admissions reps reach out to me directly.”

Vogel hopes to start a trend so that colleges, trades and the military can visit in future years.

“I am sure there will be institutions that don’t visit this year.  Thanks to the visit calendar, we will be able to analyze which institutions visited and which ones didn’t.  Then, I can target some to reach out to this year and next year. The hope is that every year we get more visits from colleges, universities, trades and armed forces branches that haven’t visited previously,” Vogel said.

According to Vogel, this could be an amazing opportunity for under and upperclassmen alike.

“For seniors especially, the hope is that they can learn more about a college or university that they are applying to and it can help narrow their list of choices down or pique their interest in an institution that wasn’t on their radar,” said Vogel. “For underclassmen it’s a great way to start thinking about what they’re looking for in a college or university, or if they are interested in the trades.”
