Heading into the year, there was a lot of doubt within the community for the Colts season. With lots of questions about the roster and Daniel Jones being named the starting quarterback. Many predictions were made and most projected the Colts to lose a lot of games.
“My expectations going into the year were not great, especially when we announced Daniel Jones to be the starting quarterback. I would say I was expecting an 7 win and 10 loss type of year,” Senior Roddick Gookins said.
After a couple weeks of the Colts blowing teams out, many started to have hope. They started looking at playoff tickets to see how much it would cost to go to a Colts playoff game.
“I had started to believe after the dominant win against the Raiders but after that Chargers performance that when I felt we were legit contenders. I have started to look at playoff ticket prices,” Gookins said.
Daniel Jones has been a huge surprise to many fans and a lot of the national media. They were projecting him to not do good as the starting quarterback and the Colts to have another disappointing season.
“The most surprising thing has been our ability to pass the ball with Daniel slinging the rock across the field and Jonathan Taylor having a historic season where he’s in contention for the MVP,” Senior Hunter Purkey said.
There has been lots of talk about the Colts and their season all around the community. They have been a hot topic at the lunch tables and inside the school.
“Yes, all the time, all my friends talk about them, there’s a lot more people at lunch and people in my other classes talk about them a lot because of how good they have been,” Purkey said.
The vibes around the team have never been higher. It’s great for everyone around the league and fans to see the Colts as like an underdog team that very poor expectations coming into the year.
“Head Coach Shane Steichen has elevated this team to a new level and the vibes have never been higher. The team is competitive and serious about winning and they show it each and every week,” Senior Sam Ragsdale said.
The Colts making a deep playoff run would mean a lot to a lot of people inside the state of Indiana and the fans. It would be the first time an Indiana football team has made a deep run in a very long time.
“It would mean a lot, it’s just great, Indiana football teams are just good right now, you have Coach Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers who are #2 in the nation and the Colts who are #1 in power ranking system and have the best record in the NFL,” Gookins said.
