This year, the school has been implementing more and more not-so-discreetly hidden AI creations. Whether that be the new T-shirt designs, the slideshows, or just basic posters for events, it is simply unnecessary.
We have a graphic design class who would love to work on school-related designs. It would be a great learning experience for everyone involved, and it would bring some more attention and representation to that class. It would give our students tasks that correlate with real world graphic design scenarios.
When choosing to use AI to generate graphic designs, the school is teaching students that have a real passion for graphic design and digital media that their passion will not matter in the real world.
Our school has the resources so they absolutely should use them. It will also get rid of the soulless AI look and “bring life” to our school designs.
There are various images on the screens in the cafeteria and the hallway that are very obviously AI generated. One of which depicts a muscular dragon without any clothes, super buff, sweaty and disgusting. I would prefer to not see this every day at lunch. While I’m eating, while I’m walking to class, when I’m doing work in the hall, it’s blatantly gross to look at.
Staring at computer-generated, jumbled, soulless images every single day makes me feel like I’m living in a dystopian fiction novel. But at least Big Brother was designed by a human and not some robot that’ll forget about you after you clear your browser history.
It’s unbelievable that the school can ban all AI on our iPads, but can use AI for literally everything else, including assignments and grading.
It’s gotten to the point where the school uses AI for almost everything. I would much rather have a less flashy poster than some oversaturated polyester man-slop.
Even though a less flashy design may be “boring” at least it’s made by the school, and it shows that the school cares about its events and takes pride in them.
And it shows us that our staff is willing to use their time to make something for us.
Although it might not be the shiniest design at least it won’t be buff and sweaty.
If the staff doesn’t care enough to design posters, shirts, graphics, etc., then I don’t care enough to buy it and encourage the continuation of AI usage in our school.
